Fun, fellowship and good food were found at Mardi Gras Trivia Night last Saturday at the Stilwell Community Building.

Hosted by the City of Stilwell Events Committee, the event was free and open to the public. A good turnout of people came and enjoyed chili or soup for $3, chili Frito pies for $5, with free cookies, and had a good time answering questions such as, “What animal’s milk is naturally pink?”

A hippopotamus was the answer.

Or she asked, “What is the most consumed beverage in the world that’s not water?”

Tea was the answer.

After welcoming everyone, Mayor Jean Ann Wright was hostess of the event.

“We decided to assist the Stilwell Fire Department raise funds for some of their community outreach projects this year. Bottom line, it helps our community, said Mayor Wright."

"Each year the fire department teaches children about fire safety, visits the nursing home each Christmas providing gifts to all residents, as well as volunteering at many events throughout the year,” Wright said.

These projects benefit many children, youth and adults throughout this community.

“The City of Stilwell provides all the necessary equipment and gear the fire fighters need to do their jobs fighting fires. The funds the Events Committee raises will go for the projects not part of their regular job,” Wright said. “For the previous two years we assisted the FOP with Shop with a Cop. Consider helping those that help our community everyday.”

Then the fun began with the mayor firing off questions from a variety of topics.

“What breakfast cereal is represented by a cartoon Toucan,” Wright said.

The answer was Fruit Loops.

“What is the smallest planet in our solar system,” said Wright?

Mercury was the answer.

Two geography questions were, “What is the longest river in the world?”

The Nile was the answer. “One the river that runs through Paris?”

The Seine River was the answer.

While some answers took a few seconds for people to guess, there were multiple answers at the same time and winners to, “What is the name of the toy cowboy in Toy Story?”

“I like getting the right answer, and it’s a good fundraiser for the fire department,” said Lovell.

At another table, Bernie Bruner and granddaughter Ericka Bruner, 10, were enjoying Frito chili pies.
